Performing Elicitation
1. There are two tabs in Elicit function, New and Existing Links.

2. Under the New tab, user can select more than one work item field from the Given input dropdown for Elicitation (both HTML and non-HTML fields are shown in the dropdown for which the Elicit function is opened).

3. User can select the work item type from the Create dropdown (the work item type of the connected process is shown along with Test Case (Integration)).

4. User can select more than one output fields from the Output Fields dropdown.

5. For Test Case work item Output Field drop down is not shown.

Note: “For Test Case (Integration) work item Output Field drop down is not shown, instead Linked WIT and Field(s) dropdown are shown, and user can select work items types linked with the selected work item and more than one fields for the linked work item type from Linked WIT and Field(s) dropdown respectively.”

6. Ranked AI models configured in the Admin Panel will be displayed for each corresponding feature on the Home Page.

7. Click on Custom instructions option at top right of the breadcrumb, a right panel opens.


8. From the right panel user will be able to see the AI Service selected in the Admin also able to Choose Type of Conversation Style such as “More Creative”, “More Balanced” or “More Precise”. Furthermore, user can Choose Output Length such as “Long”, “Medium” or “Short”. Users also have the option to specify the Response Language and even include any Custom instructions which will be added with the default prompt for both list of titles and details.

a. Users can rewrite their custom instructions using Rewrite Prompt option for both list of titles and details in the Elicit function with a single click, producing structured, complete, and accurate instructions—using the AI model selected from the "AI Model Auto Selection and Ranking" section for “Rewrite Prompt” under the General tab in Admin panel.

9. Click on the Generate button or Generate link, all the titles of the selected work item type are shown in the left panel with checkboxes before each title.


10. Click on the Select All checkbox to select all the titles fetched in the left panel OR select any titles fetched in the left panel.

11. Click on the see more… option showing after the generated titles, this will generate an additional 10 titles below the previously generated titles.


12. Click on any title from the left panel, the data will show under the selected field heading respectively in the right panel.

Note: At this point, users can use the AI Edit option to further modify or enhance the data in the right panel.
Mandatory Fields Scenario
Mandatory fields for a work item appear in the right panel within a light gray box labeled Mandatory Fields.
Note: Mandatory fields only appear when the user configures specific fields as mandatory. If no mandatory fields are configured, the mandatory fields option does not display. When mandatory fields are configured and the user does not provide values for them, the 'Create Linked Work item' button remains disabled until the user enters the mandatory information. If no mandatory fields are configured by the user, the button remains enabled by default.

• A red icon marks required fields, clearly showing that they must be filled in.

• Add the required field info in the fields mentioned in the ‘Mandatory Field' box.

• Once you enter information in the field, the red label beside it is removed.

• When all required fields for the selected title are completed, the red icon beside the title is removed.

• The Create Linked Work Item button becomes enabled only after you complete all required fields in the right panel for the work item selected in the left panel.

13. Clicking on the Create Linked Work Item button opens the “Create Work Item” pop-up. Select any link type from the dropdown to link the newly created work item with the selected work item.



14. Click on the Create button. The selected work item is published along with the field data in the ADO project/team.

15. The new work item with Elicit has been published successfully.

16. After the creation of linked work item(s), the data will be updated in the left panel.

a. Checkboxes will be displayed before each title in the left panel. Clicking a checkbox will display the 'Output Field' data in the right panel.

b. The work item ID will be added before the Title in the left panel. Clicking on the ID will open the work item in ADO editor. User can edit the fields data in the ADO editor and on saving it will reflect on Copilot4DevOps window.


c. The title will be a hyperlink. Clicking it will update the current view, adding the new title to the breadcrumb along with the 'Work Item Type' icon and 'ID'.


d. Both the right and left panels will be shown empty, allowing the user to perform the elicit function on the newly opened work item.

e. The user will be able to navigate back and forth between work items using the breadcrumb, with the state of all work items being maintained.


f. When a user hovers over a published work item row from the left panel, a Copilot4DevOps icon becomes visible. Clicking on this icon reveals a dropdown menu listing all other available Copilot4DevOps functions. The user can select any function from the dropdown, which will navigate them to the chosen function and allow them to perform their desired task.

17. Existing links tab allows users to view linked work items based on the selected type from the Work Item Type dropdown, with a link count displayed next to the tab.

a. The given input will not be shown. Initially, the 50 most recent titles, sorted by ID in descending order, are displayed.
b. If more than 50 titles exist, a show more… hyperlink will appear to load additional titles in increments of 50.
c. By default, [Any] is selected from the Work Item Type dropdown, displaying all work items linked to the selected work item.
d. Title and Description are selected from the Fields dropdown by default.

e. If the selected work item has no links, a message will be shown: No links exist for the selected work item.

f. The work item ID, link type, and title are displayed in the left panel with a checkbox beside each item. clicking the ID opens it in ADO for editing, while clicking the title navigates to the New tab for further elicitation.

Note: All other drill-down functionality remains unchanged.
g. Clicking on the root work item title returns the user to the tab where they initially accessed the work item, whether from the New section or the Existing Links section.

h. The Generate and Create linked work item options are not available on the Elicit pop-up under the Existing link(s) tab.

i. When a user hovers over any row from the left panel, a Copilot4DevOps icon becomes visible. Clicking on this icon reveals a dropdown menu listing all other available Copilot4DevOps functions. The user can select any function from the dropdown, which will navigate them to the chosen function and allow them to perform their desired task.

18. Click on the Copy ‘
’ option to copy the generated result.

19. On clicking the Cancel button, Elicit popup is closed..
