Copilot4DevOps now introduces Chat and AI Edit capabilities directly within the right panel of Backlog and Sprint views (currently available only in the Backlog tab under Sprint). This enhancement allows users to seamlessly edit and modify work items without needing to open the full Copilot4DevOps interface — enabling faster iterations, improved productivity, and a more integrated DevOps experience.
How to Access AI Edit and Chat in the Right Panel?
1. Go to the backlog tab and click on the “View Options” as shown in the image below.

2. Once you click on the “View Options” option, in the Side Pane section select “Copilot4DevOps”.

3. Once Copilot4DevOps has been selected from the View Options, a right panel appears having the Chat and AI Edit Tabs. However, the interface for both Chat and AI Edit appears only when the user has selected a work item. This can be done by clicking on a work item from the backlog.

4. In Chat, users can select multiple work items simultaneously and perform bulk modifications or updates as needed. This capability enhances productivity by allowing collective actions across several items within the backlog or sprint (only in the backlog tab in Sprint).

Note: However, in AI Edit, while users may appear to select multiple work items, the feature currently supports editing only one work item at a time. When multiple items are selected, AI Edit automatically opens the first selected work item. Edits across multiple work items are not supported in this mode.
Understanding the Functionality Behind Chat and AI Edit in the Right Panel
Let’s explore how Chat and AI Edit function within the right panel — and what limitations exist compared to their full Copilot4DevOps counterparts.
Chat Feature
The Chat in the right panel works exactly like the central chat panel in the full Copilot4DevOps interface. Functionally, there’s no difference — users can interact, ask queries, and get intelligent assistance in the same way.
However, a key limitation is that chat history isn’t saved.
AI Edit Feature
The AI Edit experience in the right panel mirrors the full-panel AI Edit in terms of features and capabilities — users can modify content, refine work items, and apply intelligent edits as usual.
The only difference lies in the save functionality:
• In the right panel, users will see only a “Save” option.
• In the full AI Edit view, users get “Save and Close.”

Apart from this, all other functionalities remain identical, ensuring consistency and ease of use across both views.
